DANUBE4all EU Mission

Start year:

PULSAQUA is leading the “Empowered Inhabitants, Communities, and Citizen Science” work package as part of the European Union’s Horizon Europe-funded DANUBE4all project. This collaborative initiative involves over 30 partners working together to restore ecosystems in and around the Danube River. Within this work package, PULSAQUA and its partners will focus on fostering public engagement, involving local communities, and promoting co-creation throughout all stages of the project.

PULSAQUA’s latests contributions to the project were the Water Sports Clean Up (WSCU) pilot and the launch of the Local Action Guide, a citizen science tool for those who want to start a citizen science project on biodiversity monitoring from the bottom up. Under the project PULSAQUA is also developing a Plug-and-Play water monitoring device, called the MeasureMate, and methods for hydromorphology.

Since 2023, PULSAQUA participates in the Danube4All project. This project is funded by the European Union’s ‘Horizon Europe’ funding programme. Through this programme, the EU funds (research) projects that contribute to complex challenges.

In the Danube4All project, many organizations will work together to research and restore ecosystems in and around the Danube river. Many renowned international research institutions, such as BOKU (Vienna), the University of Technology and Economics Budapest, GeoEcoMar (Bucharest), and OSENU (Odessa) participate in this project. In total, 48 different organizations from all across Europe participate in this project. In addition to universities, many nonprofit organizations, startups, and governmental organizations will work on this project to restore the ecosystems in and around Europe’s second-longest river.

The Danube crosses 10 countries and has a length of 2.850 km!

This project is divided in multiple ‘Work Packages’, and PULSAQUA will lead the Empowered inhabitants, communities and Citizen Science Work Package. In this specific Work Package, PULSAQUA and its project partners will focus on public engagement, involvement of local communities, and co-creation during all stages of the project. We want to ensure that communities around the Danube basin are involved and also able to participate in different stages of the research that will be conducted and the activities that will be organized.
