Developing the MeasureMate

Start year:

MeasureMate is Pulsaqua’s low-cost environmental monitoring platform, designed to make data collection more accessible for researchers, organizations, communities, and citizen scientists. By combining affordability, flexibility, and ease of use, MeasureMate helps bridge the gap between professional monitoring and community-driven environmental action.

Reliable environmental data is essential for understanding and protecting our water systems, ecosystems, and climate. Yet traditional monitoring equipment is often expensive, complex, and difficult to deploy at scale.

That is why we developed MeasureMate.

From Prototype to Real-World Validation

The first versions of MeasureMate were tested at The Green Village, an innovation field lab where new technologies can be safely developed and evaluated under real-world conditions. These early trials allowed us to refine both the hardware and software, improve reliability, and better understand how the system performs in diverse environmental settings.

The lessons learned at The Green Village formed the foundation for the next generation of MeasureMate.

Expanding to New Pilot Locations

With a more mature version now ready for deployment, MeasureMate has entered a new phase of testing and validation.

At Diergaarde Blijdorp, MeasureMate is being used to monitor water quality in a complex public environment. This pilot helps us evaluate the system’s performance in locations where environmental conditions, operational requirements, and public accessibility come together.

We are also working with RoffaReefs, where MeasureMate is being used to measure water flow velocities in areas where fish eggs are being protected and restored. The data collected contributes to a better understanding of local aquatic conditions and supports ecological conservation efforts.

Building the Future of Citizen Science

MeasureMate is more than a sensor platform. It is part of our vision to make environmental monitoring more transparent, scalable, and participatory.

By lowering barriers to data collection, we aim to empower organizations, communities, researchers, and citizen scientists to generate meaningful environmental insights together.

As our pilots continue to grow, MeasureMate will keep evolving, helping create a future where environmental data is not only available to experts, but accessible to everyone. 🌍💧
